Our Open Day brought something more than one beautiful day. It brought people who stayed.
Volunteer Līga has found her way to our residents. She comes to talk, to be present and to give her time and warmth. Recently she baked an apple cake together with our ladies, and many residents tasted it in the afternoon. The shared work, conversations and laughter filled the day with a particular warmth.
At the same time, our international volunteer project is continuing. Roger from Spain, Rümeysa and Yaren from Turkey are young people our residents have already taken to heart.
They play draughts in the garden, bake with our residents, share tea while a resident plays the piano, and listen. They help with everyday tasks — and give everything that cannot be written in a job description: time, attention, a smile and genuine care.
Rümeysa says that the elderly are like a book full of wisdom you can draw from. Volunteering has always been part of who she is — and you feel it in every smile that makes our residents feel seen and heard.
One of their goals is also to get to know Latvia and Rūjiena. We hope this experience stays with them as long as they will stay with us.
Thank you Līga, Roger, Rümeysa and Yaren — for your time, your warmth and your wish to be with us 🤍
If you would like to join us, the door stays open. Write to info@seniorumaja.lv or call 8321.
