Have you ever thought about volunteering with seniors but did not know where to start? On 12 September at 10.00, the doors of the Rūjiena Senior Home social care centre will be open to anyone who wants to find out.
Rūjiena is one of the social care centres across Latvia taking part in the Open Day organised by the association Ascendum. It is a chance, with no immediate commitment, to see what a care centre is like day to day, meet residents and staff, learn what volunteering in a care home actually involves, and understand how conversation, presence and shared activities can enrich a senior’s day.
No previous experience or special skills are needed. What matters most is the willingness to give seniors your time and attention.
After signing up, a representative of the centre will contact you with more details about the day. One conversation may well be the beginning of a valuable friendship.
